New industry initiative aims to help outdoor retailers onto the international stage at ISPO Munich

Details have been announced of a new initiative designed to attract more specialist outdoor retailers to ISPO MUNICH in 2014. A partnership between ISPO and the European Outdoor Group (EOG), the project will see up to 70 additional outdoor retailers from across Europe being invited to attend the show (26 – 19 January 2014) free of charge as VIPs, with subsidised accommodation.

The specialist outdoor retailer scheme has been set up to attract outdoor retailers who have not visited ISPO MUNICH at all in the past, or who have not attended for at least three years.  The project is launching this month, with both partners encouraging retailers to apply directly, and brands to nominate suitable retailers to be invited to the show.

The initiative is being led by a high profile advisory group set up by the EOG, which supports ISPO on outdoor specific matters.  Members of the group include Eddy Codega, President and CEO of C.A.M.P. SpA , Martin Riebel, CEO of Deuter, Nicolas Warchalowski, CEO of Haglöfs, Reiner Gerstner, Group Brand and Marketing Director of the Salewa Group, and Christian Jäggi, Managing Director of Black Diamond Europe.

Christian Jäggi comments:

“The specialist retailers are the backbone of our industry and while an overhelming part of the established trade already meets annually in Munich, we know that in such a dynamic sector as ours, talented new store owners and managers put loads of efforts into establishing their business.

This special support from ISPO is a great opportunity for retailers who are outward looking and interested in taking their business to the next level.”

Mark Held, secretary general of the European Outdoor Group, comments:

“This initiative brings benefits to all involved, giving more retailers access to the latest product and marketing developments, while offering brands the opportunity to secure new customers.  I am sure that each retailer selected will find their trip to ISPO MUNICH to be extremely worthwhile and I hope that it proves to be the first of many visits.”

Retailers have until 30 November to apply to the scheme. Brands can also nominate retailers by that date.  In early December, a panel of experts will deliberate and select up to 70 successful retailers, who will be invited to the show before the end of 2013.
