Can the Microfibre challenge sit within a circularity strategy?
As organisations work to embed the ‘Microfibre’ topic within already busy and complex sustainability strategies, TMC is often asked ‘How does Fibre Fragmentation sit within the Circularity Agenda?’. Mindful of the interconnectivity between so much of the larger sustainability agenda, this session is intended for anyone looking to better understand the connectivity between these two key sustainability areas.
Addressing the needs of both those starting out on the‘Microfibre’ journey, and those in more of the active phase the session will look to: Set the ground roots topic understanding, identify how the Microfibre topic sits within circularity, demystify some of the assumptions, identify ways you can embed this topic within your strategies
Sophie Mather, The Microfibre Consortium
As a reputable thought leader on Sustainable Innovation,Sophie Mather, Founding Director of The Microfibre Consortium brings a depth of first-hand experience and innovative thinking to the industry challenge of fibre fragmentation release. The Microfibre Consortium is leading the textile industry in reducing microfibre release to protect our environment and achieve a vision of zero impact from fibre fragmentation from textiles to the natural environment. TMC looks to connect and translate deep academic research, with the reality of commercial supply chain production to offer solutions to its brand, retail and supplier members and ultimately for the greater good of our ecosystems.
A chance to do things better: A new approach to sustainability communications.
As an industry we have reached an unprecedented level of confusion and complication when it comes to sustainability communications. In this session, leading outdoor brand, Rab, explored a more honest way of making sustainability claims for products. The results of a long journey to make sustainability as clear and transparent as possible for consumers and retailers. The European Outdoor Group also presented their Sustainability Data Exchange Project, which was conceived to address the need for alignment on product sustainability attribute communication between brands and retailers and aims to explore and find approaches to the address the multiple and diverse sustainability standards/ guidelines requests. With project deliverables including guidance for retailers on developing such measures, a harmonised data exchange methodology, and development of a digital sustainability data exchange platform.
