The SDEX Standard is a defined framework of agreed data points, structures, and definitions for exchanging sustainability information between Brands and Retailers.
The standard was developed in response to existing retailer questionnaires and evolving European policy requirements, identifying areas of overlap and duplication. It establishes a harmonized data structure to support consistent, comparable, and verifiable product and brand-level sustainability information.
By aligning data requests within a shared framework, the SDEX Standard aims to reduce administrative burden, improve data quality, and strengthen information readiness across the value chain.
The SDEX Tool is the free Excel-based implementation of the SDEX Standard, designed to support data collection and exchange. In September 2025, the latest version of the SDEX Standard, SDEX 3.0 launched. For access to the Excel sheet, please click
