European Outdoor Group and Protect Our Winters Europe team up to boost climate emergency action

The European Outdoor Group (EOG) and non-profit group Protect Our Winters Europe (POW) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU), that formalises and elevates collaboration between the organisations. Through the MOU, the EOG and POW will work together on a programme of events and advocacy to deliver real action to address the climate emergency.

The European Outdoor Group is the voice of the outdoor industry, representing around 150 brands, retailers, technology brands, national associations and other organisations in the value chain. Through its portfolio of projects, the overriding vision of the EOG is to support the sector in doing global, profitable business in a way that gives back more than it takes, from nature and people. Protect Our Winters Europe unites 10 national non-profits under one umbrella, rallying the outdoor community, athletes, scientists, creatives, and businesses, to lead on climate action.

The EOG and POW both have objectives to equip companies with what they need to implement their own science-based, impactful actions to address the climate emergency. The MOU will enable each organisation to share insights and best practice from the other with its members. The partnership will also see the EOG and POW work together on public advocacy and engage with other stakeholders and policy makers, to strongly represent the outdoor sector when decisions are made on legislation and regulation.

EOG Director Christian Schneidermeier comments: “The European Outdoor Group and Protect Our Winters Europe have been working together for some time now. We share fundamental concerns about the impact that climate change is having on the landscapes that are not just vital for our sector, but which we deeply love and value. Our industry is led by many people who are active in the outdoors and have witnessed first-hand the changes that are taking place in the natural world. We are passionate about taking real, systemic action to address these issues and can do that best by collaborating with others who are on the same path. This MOU with Protect Our Winters Europe will enable us to work more effectively and with a louder voice, and I am delighted to have signed it on behalf of the European Outdoor Group and its growing membership.”

POW Europe Director Jonas Schneider highlights: “Every time we engage with policymakers and push for systemic change, we’re reminded of how powerful our collective voice truly is - the voice of POW, the brands, the athletes, and our wider outdoor community. It’s a voice that doesn’t just deserve to be heard - it needs to be heard. This partnership with the European Outdoor Group comes at the perfect time. By joining forces, we can strengthen that voice and work even more effectively with progressive outdoor brands to drive meaningful, science-based action on the climate crisis. Together, we’ll keep fighting to protect the places - and the seasons - we love and depend on.”
