Extraordinary General Meeting at ISPO 2022

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our Extraordinary General Assembly (EGA) ahead of ISPO - we had 43 representatives from 37 member organisations.

During the meeting, Mark Held stepped down as EOG President after serving two terms. Mark will continue to be active in our industry as a consultant, but this ends his formal involvement with EOG, which he helped to found in 2003. Members thanked Mark for his huge contribution, and he thanked them for their support over the years.

At the EGA, members confirmed the EOG Board’s recommendation that Matt Gowar of Equip Outdoor Technologies becomes the next EOG President. Matt has been our Vice President since early this year and steps up to the role of President with immediate effect. Paolo Bordin of AKU has succeeded Matt as EOG Vice President.

After accepting the role of EOG President, Matt commented:

“I am delighted to take over the role of President of EOG from Mark and follow in the footsteps of him and the previous presidents who have helped to shape where the EOG is today. I believe that we must continue to prioritise pre-competitive collaboration to enable the industry to effectively face the issues impacting us all. With the experience of the EOG team and Paolo as Vice President, we can lead for the growth of an ethical and sustainable industry, preserving the outdoors for future generations and shaping the industry we are all so proud of.”

As a result of these changes, and with Matthias Zaggl and Michel Gogniat due to step down as their terms of office come to an end, we have three vacancies on the EOG Board. These will be appointed at our Annual General Assembly, which will be held online early in 2023.

One of the positions will be a dedicated CSR and sustainability seat and this is not limited to MD/CEO level executives. Ideal candidates will be subject matter experts on the topics, and will be expected to advise, advocate, and motivate the board. They will bring credible background and knowledge to CSR and sustainability related discussions, and also support the secretariat in its work in those areas. This is not an additional seat, but a repurposed existing board position, and will follow the same appointment process.

Potential candidates for all three positions should express interest by contacting Arne Strate on arne.strate@europeanoutdoorgroup.com.

Alongside the formal EGA business, during the meeting we also took the opportunity to provide a brief update of the work being undertaken by our team, across our growing portfolio of projects.
