New EU cardiovascular health plan

Following the publication by the Commission of its EU Cardiovascual health plan (see below for more information), the European Parliament is developing an own-initiative report (not binding), calling for an EU strategy on cardiovascular diseases.
The EP SANT Committee (public health) is leading the draft of this report, led by Rapporteur Romana Jerković (Croatia, S&D).
In particular, the report:
- Acknowledges that physical inactivity constitutes one of the key modifiable risk factors that could prevent the burden of CVDs.
- Highlights that car-dependent urban planning, lack of green spaces and unsafe conditions for walking and cycling contribute directly to heart diseases
- Calls for public investment in healthy urban environments that promote physical activity and reduce cardiovascular risk;
