ECHA BPR Update: Active Substances & Product Types for Treated Articles

SUMMARY

ECHA has updated its list of active substances allowed in treated articles, reflecting their regulatory status under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR).

MORE INFORMATION

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) has updated its list of active substances allowed in treated articles under the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR), providing an overview of the regulatory status of active substance-product type (AS-PT) combinations.

The list covers AS-PT combinations that are approved, under assessment or covered by transitional provisions under Article 94 of the BPR. It is updated periodically to reflect changes in their regulatory status, such as new approvals, non-approval decisions or withdrawals.

For the sporting goods industry, the most relevant product types include:

  • ‍PT 9: Preservatives for fibre, leather, rubber and polymerized materials, relevant to sportswear, footwear and sports equipment.‍
  • PT 18: Insecticides, potentially relevant to insecticide-treated outdoor clothing and mosquito nets.‍
  • PT 19: Repellents, potentially relevant to insect-repellent treatments and outdoor products.‍
  • PT 2: Disinfectants, potentially relevant to treated surfaces and materials used in sports facilities.‍
  • PT 6: Preservatives for products during storage, potentially relevant to formulations and materials used in manufacturing.

We encourage members to consult the updated ECHA list and check the regulatory status of any active substance-product type combinations relevant to your products or supply chains.

Please note that the list is for information purposes only. It has no legal effect, and ECHA does not guarantee its accuracy.
