MORE INFORMATION

  • During a plenary session on 22nd Oct, the European Parliament approved the provisional agreement reached with the Council on the CLP Regulation, as part of the Chemicals Omnibus VI, with 477 votes in favour, 59 against and 41 abstentions.
  • As a reminder, the Chemicals Omnibus VI aims to simplify certain requirements introduced by the 2024 revision of the CLP Regulation, reducing administrative burdens and compliance costs while maintaining consumer protection.
  • The main changes include more flexible labelling requirements, wider use of digital labels and a maximum 15-month deadline for suppliers to update labels following a more severe classification, while maintaining the obligation to act without undue delay.
  • The revised rules on label formatting and relabelling will apply 18 months after the Omnibus enters into force.
The changes are mainly relevant to companies and suppliers handling chemical substances and mixtures, including adhesives, coatings and paints used in manufacturing.

NEXT STEPS

The informal agreement will now be endorsed by Council.

The regulation will enter into force 20 days after it has been published in the EU Official Journal.
