FESI analysis of the LIFE4EPR workshop on EPR registration and reporting

SUMMARY

  • On, 14 October, FESI participated in the latest LIFE4EPR workshop on EPR registration and reporting.
  • The session focused on the project’s proposed Registration and Reporting Gateway (RRG), a pilot tool intended to simplify producer registration and reporting across different Member States and EPR streams.
  • Members can find below the workshop presentation and a detailed FESI briefing summarising the discussion, the proposed functioning of the RRG and our preliminary assessment.

MORE INFORMATION

The RRG is designed as a single entry point through which producers could submit registration information and report products placed on the market across multiple Member States. It would not replace national registers or PROs, but would instead act as an intermediary platform connecting existing systems.

The workshop also included a practical demonstration of how the platform would work in practice, including producer registration, POM reporting and the roles of producers, PROs, authorised representatives and national registers.
From FESI’s perspective, the RRG represents a very clear compromise on possible harmonisation measures for EPR schemes across the EU. While it could nevertheless represent a positive (if limited) step towards reducing EPR fragmentation, important questions remain on governance, financing and the extent of actual simplification achieved.
