French consumer protection authority (DGCCRF) imposed administrative fines for noncompliance with AGEC

For your information, the French consumer protection authority (DGCCRF) has imposed an administrative fine of €224,950 on Boohoo UK Limited following an investigation into compliance with French environmental information requirements applicable to textile products.

The investigation, carried out in 2025 on Boohoo.com and boohooMan.com, identified several breaches, including:

  • missing information on the geographical location of weaving, dyeing, printing and manufacturing operations for 1,863 products;
  • absence of the mandatory statement “releases plastic microfibres into the environment during washing” for 773 textile products containing more than 50% synthetic fibres; and
  • absence of the required product information sheet on environmental qualities and characteristics for 1,863 products.

This case is another concrete indication that the French authorities are actively enforcing the environmental information obligations introduced under the AGEC framework. It is particularly relevant for our sector as it concerns textile-specific requirements relating to production traceability, microfibre disclosures and environmental product information sheets.

More broadly, it also illustrates the increasing compliance and enforcement focus in France around product-level environmental information, consumer-facing disclosures and environmental claims, alongside other national initiatives currently developing in the textile and footwear sector.

FESI and EOG will continue to monitor national implementation and enforcement developments and flag relevant cases to members.
