Commission hosted Digital Product Passport for Batteries Webinar

SUMMARY

  • On 27 May, the European Commission held a webinar on the EU Digital Product Passport for batteries. Members can find the slide deck from the webinar attached, as well as the recording of the event here.
  • The session focused on the practical implementation of the Battery Passport, including upcoming data requirements, industry readiness, governance and technical architecture, as well as available support for SMEs.
  • The webinar may be of interest to members as it provides an early indication of how Digital Product Passports could function in practice across value chains.

MORE INFORMATION

The webinar explored what the Battery Passport will mean in practice for companies operating in or affected by the batteries ecosystem, including manufacturers, suppliers, recyclers, service providers and SMEs.

The discussion covered data requirements, implementation timelines, governance frameworks, technical architecture and stakeholder responsibilities. Speakers also addressed the need for clear standards, implementing acts, guidance on dynamic data, and clarity on access rights.

Stakeholders broadly recognised the potential of the Battery Passport to enhance transparency, traceability and circularity across the battery value chain. At the same time, implementation certainty remains a key challenge, particularly regarding the practical allocation of responsibilities and the availability of clear technical guidance.

NEXT STEPS

The Commission announced that a follow-up webinar will take place on 7 July 2026, with further information expected in due course.

FESI will continue monitoring developments related to the Digital Product Passport, including battery-specific discussions insofar as they may provide useful indications for future DPP implementation under the ESPR.
