REACH and Chemicals: RAC and SEAC Regulatory Progress

SUMMARY
- In March, RAC and SEAC progressed on key REACH work, including restrictions on chromium (VI) substances and octocrilene, and applications for authorisation.
- Particularly, RAC adopted opinions on classification and labelling (including cannabidiol) and on occupational exposure limits.
MORE INFORMATION
- Classification and labelling
- In total, RAC adopted 11 CLH opinions covering substances used in consumer products, industrial applications, and agriculture. Cannabidiol is recommended to be classified as a reproductive toxicant. Other classifications address acute toxicity, aquatic hazards, and skin/eye effects.
- Occupational exposure limits:
- RAC set limits for acetone oxime and butanone oxime, establishing cancer risk levels and 8-hour TWA limits to protect against non-cancer effects on blood and smell-sensing tissues.
- Applications for authorisation:
- Five opinions were adopted and 12 draft opinions agreed for consultation, all concerning chromium (VI) substances. SEAC will continue one draft opinion at its June 2026 plenary.
NEXT STEPS
SEAC will continue one chromium (VI) draft opinion at its June plenary.
Final decisions, opinions, and meeting minutes will be published on RAC and SEAC web pages.
