FESI February Trade Monitor Published

We are pleased to share the February edition of the FESI Trade Monthly Monitor, highlighting key developments in EU trade policy and international negotiations relevant to the sporting goods sector.
This month’s update focuses on several important trade developments. The European Commission has published tariff schedules under the EU–Indonesia CEPA, confirming the elimination of many textile and apparel tariffs upon entry into force. In parallel, the Commission is encouraging rapid ratification of recently concluded trade agreements, including the EU–India FTA, to ensure the EU can quickly benefit from tariff reductions and improved market access.
Negotiations with ASEAN partners continue to advance. The EU–Thailand FTA talks have completed their eighth round with steady progress across several chapters, while discussions with Malaysia and the Philippines are also moving forward, with the Commission aiming to conclude the EU–Philippines agreement by the end of the year.
On the EU trade agenda, the Commission announced plans to provisionally apply the EU–Mercosur agreement following ratification by Argentina and Uruguay, potentially from June 2026. Meanwhile, progress on EU Customs Reform continues, including agreement on the process to select the seat of the future EU Customs Authority and new rules removing the duty exemption for low-value parcels entering the EU.
Finally, developments in EU–US trade relations remain fluid following a US Supreme Court ruling declaring certain tariffs imposed under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act unlawful, while discussions in the European Parliament on the implementation of the Turnberry deal have been temporarily postponed.
