
Publication and FESI analysis of the new European Bioeconomy Strategy

On 27th November the European Commission has unveiled its new Bioeconomy Strategy. Members can find the document in the attachment.

The European Commission announced in the Clean Industrial Deal that it would publish a new Bioeconomy Strategy, building on the existing framework and the results of the public consultations held before summer 2025. Members can find more details about the consultations here. As a result of this process, the final version of the new strategy to build a competitive bioeconomy was published today.
While the main content is maintained compared to the leaked document addressed in the previous email, some new actions (highlighted in yellow in the analysis) have been announced in the final text, including:
- The creation of a European Bioeconomy Regulators and Innovators’ Forum to facilitate exchange and coordinate the fast-tracking of authorisations.
- The establishment of a Scale-Up Europe Fund in partnership with the EIB to improve access to finance for startups.
- Exploring the possibility of introducing bio-based content requirements for certain chemical products.
The focus on the promotion of Bio-Fibres is maintained, focusing on enhancing the demand for natural fibres, agricultural by-products, cellulose-derived materials, and biopolymer-based fibres for textiles and industrial applications.
